Publisher's Summary
She’s small-town business. He’s Manhattan high finance. Together they ignite in a novel about unexpected love and danger by Nancy Herkness, award-winning author of the Wager of Hearts series.
New Jersey bookkeeper Alice Thurber has a carefully constructed risk-free life. Everything in perfect balance. Until little discrepancies show up in her clients’ accounts. Most would ignore it. Not the impeccably precise Alice. In desperation she reaches out to a high-powered consulting firm for help. New York City’s movie-star handsome financial wizard Derek Killion reaches back. All he has to do is smile and Alice’s fantasies stir. A girl can dream, can’t she?
A cofounder of KRG, Derek’s promise is to advise small-business owners in trouble. He never guessed that assisting the diffident but sexy Alice would be so captivating and make it so hard to keep his desires in check. But just as intriguing is the alarming puzzle behind the computer glitch that’s unsettled his client. As the investigation unfolds, they must also confront an attraction too palpable to ignore. Every new dark twist they follow is only bringing them closer together—in passion and in danger.
Nancy Herkness has a killer book here with The Money Man.
The thing that I wanna start off by saying is that, my day job is that of a
bookkeeper. So, when there were talking about software that would integrate
cashless information and balancing with software verses paper and pen, I was
really into it. I understood what they were doing. I know what they were
talking about most of the time, but I don’t know what the others that are just
reading it casually will take from it. In the book, they talk about how they like
numbers because they are consistent. And I’ve said that several time. So,
career accurate.
Now, lets talk about the storyline now that I’ve fangirled
over the career of the main characters. Oh, wait… okay so the entire point is
that the bookkeeper discovers bookkeeping errors that allow for her to contact
this larger company to consult with her. Which is pretty great. Even then, she
still uncovers the truth because sometimes you have to do a thorough audit.
Bad guys are out to get the girl. The guy is super smart and
acknowledges her super smartness. They both do work and research along with the
rest of the team to get to the nitty gritty of the scheme. There is a lot of
really interesting badassary of its own kind in here that we have to look at.
There is a lot of times that you really know that things are going to go bad at
some point.
This is a great bit of sexiness in the story here. There are
sexy times with, not an alpha male, but the guy next door. Derrick is the guy
that we all wish could be our guy. He’s busy with a company and still wants to
be involved with her. He wants to protect her but without the “Me Tarzan, You
Jane” attitude that is so common it seems these days. I love the story they
share and the way that we know how they work together because, well, numbers
bind them and keep them together.
Overall, this is a great story and I can’t wait to read the
next stories in the series to see how these characters will also get their
HEAs.
Peace and happiness!
