Death of Darkness Blog Tour- Author Q&A

First of all, thank you for considering me for your blog tour. It’s brand new but it’s something I’m really passionate about. I have roughly 1300 audiobooks but I have to say yours are ones I return to over and over. It’s an amazing twist to a vampire universe.

Thank you! I’m so happy to be here. And I’m thrilled to hear you’re enjoying my Immortal Guardians series. I have always loved vampire stories, both those in the romance genre and those in horror, so I couldn’t resist writing my own and putting a new spin on it. Kirsten Potter is a fantastic narrator. As you know, this series boasts an ensemble cast. The immortals really are like a big family even though they come from a variety of countries and eras. And Kirsten has done a fabulous job of giving each and every one of them his or her own unique voice. I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I didn’t really get into audiobooks until I heard her narrate DARKNESS DAWNS, the first book in the series. I loved it, and have been hooked ever since. I don’t think I’ve amassed 1300 audiobooks yet, but my Audible library is constantly growing.

Your fans have been waiting a while for Seth’s book. How do you think they are going to feel about the experience, in general?

I hope they’ll enjoy it. I’ve wanted to bring them this book for several years, but had to wait until the time was right. I know some scenes will make IG fans laugh out loud. Those are often my favorites because I love making people laugh and always grin big when readers and audiobook listeners mention drawing odd looks and reactions when this or that scene made them burst out laughing in public. The action scenes in my books can be intense, and the enemy the Immortal Guardians face in this one is formidable, so some scenes will have fans clinging to the edges of their seats. And some scenes, I know, will make their jaws drop. I can’t wait to hear what they think.

You’ve spoken about the length of Seth’s book, and I remember you saying that it did overlap Awaken the Darkness somewhat, I think. A lot of this series has that overlap. Do you have a huge story board looking wall, covered in these notes to help you keep track of your story lines and how things mesh?

Seth’s book is definitely longer than previous books. A LOT happens in it. :-) And it does overlap Awaken the Darkness at one point. But audiobook lovers who haven’t listened to Awaken the Darkness won’t be lost if they go directly to Seth’s book. (They’ll just know more about some of the secondary characters if they listen to it first.) There IS a lot of overlap in my series. But the only storyboard full of notes is in my head. As I mentioned earlier, my Immortal Guardians are very much a family unit. And as with families, their stories don’t unfold one at a time. While the bad boy of the family *cough* Bastien *cough* is getting into trouble and falling in love in his book, Phantom Shadows, Richart is texting a mysterious lover we haven’t met. That sort of thing. But I like to focus on one romance at a time, so you don’t actually see Richart’s romance unfold until In Still Darkness. This is how the stories often come to me. While I’m filling pages with one, another is unfolding on the periphery of my imagination. Some that I haven’t mentioned online have already been written—beginning to ending—in my head. I just have to find time to get them down.

Now, you can’t say Seth because obviously we are delving into his now. Who are you most excited to write about, even if you know it will be years down the road?

There are actually a few, including immortals who haven’t made an appearance in the series yet. But two in particular come to mind. One is a huge spoiler, so I can’t name him. But the other is an Immortal Guardian named Eliana. You’ll get a glimpse of her in Seth’s book.

Am I allowed to ask who is next? Ah, screw it! Who’s next?!?

:-D You’ll get a huge hint in the Epilogue of Seth’s book. I’m already writing that character’s story and am super excited because this book has been playing out in my head for years.

Now, for one final question, and this is very strange, but can we get Sheldon and Tracy’s story? I mean, I know the parts of it from books and I adore them. But, a mini story could be cute!

Fans of the series have been asking me to give several of the mortals in the series their own books, and Sheldon and Tracy’s story is usually at the top of the list, along with Chris Reordon’s. I LOVE that readers are invested not just in the immortals in the series, but in the humans and gifted ones, too. Sheldon is a particular favorite of mine. For those who are new to the series, he’s a human who provides quite a bit of comic relief. He’s also the character who conducts many of the character interviews in my blog tours. Those interviews are actually what drove me to expand his role in the series. I’ve already written his entire backstory in my mind… and much of the rest of his story, too. So I’m pretty sure he and Tracy will get their own book one of these days.

Thank you again for letting me visit and helping me celebrate the big release!

About the Book

Death of Darkness by Dianne Duvall

Immortal Guardians Book #9

Releasing August 20, 2019

Delve into the most eagerly anticipated book in New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall’s “utterly addictive” (RT Book Reviews), “fast-paced and humorous” (Publishers Weekly) Immortal Guardians series.

Seth has led the Immortal Guardians for thousands of years. With them fighting by his side, he has protected humans from psychotic vampires, defeated corrupt mercenary armies, defended military bases under attack, and more. But the latest enemy to rise against the Immortal Guardians has proven to be a formidable one, wielding almost as much power as Seth. His goal is simple. He wants to watch the world burn. And he will use every means at his disposal to accomplish it. Seth and his Immortal Guardians have succeeded thus far in staving off Armageddon despite heartbreaking losses. But they have never before faced such danger. Seth has only one wish: to protect his Immortal Guardians family and ensure the continuation of humanity by defeating his foe. But then Leah walks into his life and sparks a new desire.

Leah Somerson has suffered losses of her own. It has taken her a long time to rebuild her life and find some semblance of peace. Then one night a tall, dark, powerful immortal with what appears to be the weight of the world on his shoulders stumbles into her shop, and everything changes. Peace and contentment are no longer enough. Now she wants more. She wants to find happiness. She wants to erase the darkness in Seth’s eyes and replace it with love and laughter. She knows he’s different in ways that make most fear him. Even some of his immortal brethren keep a careful distance. But Leah will not. Nor will she shy away when danger strikes.
